CNC turning of plastics

CNC turning

We use this method to machine plastic rods of circular cross-section. With the LNS hydraulic feeder, we are able to machine rods with up to 70 mm in diameter and 3 metres in length; larger parts are handled in blocks.

With the combination of C-axis and driven tools, or of Y-axis and a counter spindle, we can also use single clamping to machine more complex parts requiring turning and milling operations. This achieves high precision and reduces production time to a minimum.

We mainly machine plastics (POM, PETP, PVDF, PA6, PA12, PMMA, PE, PTFE, PVC and plastics with fibreglass additives such as PA66 GF30 etc.), which is in line with the specialised tooling that allows us to achieve surface roughness of 0.8 Ra. We currently own three CNC lathes from the Italian manufacturer BIGLIA and we plan to purchase more.

Machinery

  • BIGLIA B 510 – three-axis CNC lathe; its robust design and new revolving turret offer stiffness, precision and speed during machining.
  • BIGLIA B 565 M with rotary tools (C axis) – in addition to conventional turning operations, this CNC lathe can also do milling or drilling on other workpiece surfaces with single clamping, which eliminates the need for additional machinery. The main advantage is the precision and the time required for processing.
  • BIGLIA B 620 YS – the most advanced model of a multifunctional turning centre. The modular concept and highly versatile options provide a wide range of machining options ranging from generic turning to comprehensive machining of complex parts. The machine is equipped with a counter-spindle, a B-axis, Y-axis, and C-axis.
